FRESHMEN CLASS

The transfers aren’t the only newcomers for South Carolina in 2021. Frank Martin brings in his best recruiting class in five seasons with the additions of Jacobi Wright, Devin Carter, TaQuan Woodley, and Carlous Williams.

The guards, Carter and Wright, are both considered top 100 prospects by various recruiting outlets. Wright, who many believe will slide into the point guard role in the coming seasons, is ranked as the nation’s 83rd best player according to PrepHoops, while Carter is viewed by ESPN to be the 92nd best recruit in the class.

Though Williams and Woodley come with a bit less fanfare, their offer sheets speak to their talents. Woodley chose the Gamecocks over Penn State, while also holding offers from Rutgers, Georgia, St John’s, and Temple. Williams picked South Carolina despite having offers from Houston, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and national champion Baylor.

These four youngsters will certainly add needed depth following all of the Gamecocks’ roster turnover, and should be able to carve out a role on next year’s team.
