South Carolina football is in the running for this 4-star QB.

Shane Beamer is leading the Gamecocks through their first Spring as head coach, but that doesn’t mean he’s left the recruiting trail. With the NCAA recently lifting its in-person recruiting bans, the trail will soon be hotter than ever. South Carolina has already secured two commitments for its class of 2022, and has a host of players setting official visits with the school for the Summer. It could be adding one more to that list very soon, as one four-star signal caller has listed the Gamecocks among his top seven choices.

Braden Davis, a 6-foot-5 pro-style style passer from Delaware, has dropped a final group that includes South Carolina along with Cincinnati, Duke, NC State, Georgia Tech, Stanford, and West Virginia.

The Gamecocks have been on Davis hard over the last few weeks as they look to replace the loss of Gunner Stockton, a five-star player that decommitted in January. The quarterback room in Columbia currently features four-star talents Luke Doty and Colten Gauthier, as well as transfer Jason Brown. Ryan Hilinski and Collin Hill have left the program, leaving the position group a bit thin. Should Davis join this group, he’d add immediate depth with an opportunity to learn under offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield.

Davis is considered by Rivals Recruiting to be the country’s 14th-best pro-style passer, and the top prospect from the First State. He’s also the son of former first round pick Antone Davis, who played in the NFL for seven seasons following an All-American career at Tennessee.

The Gamecocks will look to stay in Davis’s good graces as they try to add to a recruiting class that currently ranks 51st in the nation.
