The South Carolina basketball team begins SEC Tournament play Thursday.

The SEC Tournament will begin tonight, with an opening round matchup between 12th-seeded Texas A&M and 13th-seeded Vanderbilt. Ahead of the event’s start, Las Vegas has released the odds for each league member to take home the title and book its ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

The Gamecocks are listed as a major longshot to take home the title, with their current odds set at 150 to 1. That makes Frank Martin’s group the third least likely team in the conference to win it all, behind only the two teams meeting in the opening round tonight.

To win its first ever SEC Tournament title, the Gamecocks will have to pull off four consecutive upsets, starting with a matchup versus Ole Miss. Over the last five seasons, South Carolina is just 1-4 in the tournament, with that lone win coming against the Rebels in 2018.

They’ll look to shake off the rust and change the narrative in the postseason, as they try to keep their season alive for just a few more games.

Regular season champion Alabama is considered the league favorite, while the red-hot Arkansas Razorbacks have the second-best odds after winning their last 11 games of the year. Below are the outlooks for the rest of the conference.

  • Alabama +220
  • Arkansas + 300
  • LSU + 500
  • Tennessee +525
  • Florida +575
  • Missouri +900
  • Kentucky +1500
  • Ole Miss +2500
  • Mississippi State +6000
  • Georgia +12000
  • South Carolina +15000
  • Texas A&M +30000
  • Vanderbilt +30000

The major surprise is seeing Kentucky being seeded in the middle of the pack after winning four of the last five tournament titles. Barring a run, it appears that the Wildcats will be held without a league championship for a second consecutive season.

The tournament will begin tonight at 7 PM with the Aggies and Commodores squaring off in Nashville.
