South Carolina football is working hard to fill its ’22 recruiting class.

The South Carolina coaching staff is laying the ground work to fill its 2022 recruiting class with some of the nation’s top talent from the high school ranks. Shane Beamer recently received his first official commitment in the class last month, with a pledge from four-star safety Anthony Rose.

That momentum is continuing through this week, with a trio of prospects recently including the Gamecocks in their top groups. Those three players are Alfonzo Allen, Mumu Bin-Wahad, and Isaiah Sategna.

Allen, a four-star safety from Hallandale, Florida, released a top 12 on Thursday afternoon that included South Carolina, along with Alabama, Miami, LSU, Clemson, Texas A&M, Florida State, UAB, South Florida, Arizona State, Central Florida, and Southern Cal.

Allen plays at the same high school as Rose, the recent Gamecock commit, and could be looking to join his teammate at the next level. He’s considered by Rivals to be the 175th best player in the nation, regardless of position, and the 13th best safety.

Defensive back Mumu Bin-Wahad also released a list of finalists this week, dropping a top 10 on Tuesday. That group included South Carolina, along with Arizona State, TCU, Mississippi State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Central Florida, West Virginia, Penn State, and Georgia Tech.

Bin-Wahad is rated as the nation’s 59th best corner, and the Georgia native was once committed to the University of Cincinnati. He withdrew that pledge in January, and has opened his recruitment back up. The Gamecocks are considered to be a frontrunner.

Finally, four-star wide receiver Isaiah Sategna added the Gamecocks to his top 10 earlier this week, alongside Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State, Missouri, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Southern Cal, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Sategna is ranked as the nation’s 250th best player, and the top prospect in the state of Arkansas. Texas A&M and Arkansas seem to have an advantage here, but South Carolina receivers coach Justin Stepp could help close the gap. Stepp was previously on staff with the Razorbacks before moving to Columbia this winter.

The addition of one or more of these prospects would be huge for the Gamecocks, as all three play at major positions of need. Shane Beamer and Co. will do their best to secure the commitments and build the ’22 class in their first recruiting cycle.
