A former South Carolina football star is interviewing for the Eagles’ HC job.

The Philadelphia Eagles fired head coach Doug Pederson this week after his team posted a 4-11 record in 2020, and finished in the cellar of a terrible NFC East division. The news comes just two years after Pederson led the organization to a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.

With Pederson out of the picture, the Eagles have gone through the rounds in the hiring process, and a former South Carolina football star is emerging as a possible candidate.

Duce Staley has been a member of the Eagles’ staff since 2011, serving in roles with the special teams and running backs. He’s currently listed as the team’s Assistant Head Coach.

Staley has won the Super Bowl as both a player and coach in the NFL. He played professionally for 10 seasons, accumulating 5,785 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground, while adding 2,587 yards and 10 scores receiving. He ranks fifth on the Eagles’ all-time rushing list.

Staley left Philadelphia in 2004 to team up with Ben Roethlisberger and Jerome Bettis, where he helped the Pittsburgh Steelers take home a Super Bowl title in the ’05-’06 season.

Originally from West Columbia, Staley played two seasons for his hometown Gamecocks before being taken in the third round of the ’97 NFL draft. He was an all-conference performer, totaling 2,341 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns.

Check out one of his top Gamecock highlights below. (PS, can we please bring back the diamonds in the endzone??).

If selected, Staley would become the 24th head coach in Eagles’ history.
