South Carolina football has its next OC.

Less than 24 hours after losing then offensive coordinator Mike Bobo to the Auburn Tigers, Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football staff have made a new hire at the position. Joe Person, the Carolina Panthers beat writer for The Athletic, has reported that the Gamecocks will hire Panthers offensive line coach Marcus Satterfield to be their next play caller.

Satterfield is finishing up his first season with Carolina, after being a long-time college assistant. Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Satterfield spent time on staffs at Baylor, Temple, East Tennessee State, Richmond, Chattanooga, UT Martin, and Western Carolina. He was also a head coach at Tennessee Tech.

Satterfield’s experience includes roles as offensive coordinator and recruiting director, as well as coaching wideouts, tight ends, and in the the trenches. His only SEC experience comes as a graduate assistant under Phil Fulmer at Tennessee.

As an offensive coordinator with Chattanooga, Satterfield’s offense ranked 11th nationally, scoring 49 touchdowns and averaging 430 yards a game. After moving on to the same role with Temple, he led the Owls to its best offensive putout in more than 30 years. His 2013 offense averaged nearly 400 yards a contest, and Satterfield helped guide the Owls to the AAC title game two years later. Temple won 10 games that season.

With the hire, the Gamecocks’ offensive staff is nearly complete, missing just an offensive line coach. Former line coach Will Friend, who joined the staff in Columbia a couple of weeks ago, is following Mike Bobo to Auburn.

With an offensive coordinator now in place, the Gamecocks can begin hitting the recruiting trail hard, while also focusing on assembling their defensive staff.
