South Carolina football: Beamer lands commitment of Georgia Southern transfer

South Carolina football lands commitment from first-year DB.
David Spaulding just finished up his first season with the Georgia Southern football program, having totaled seven tackles, an interception, and a touchdown for the Eagles over eight games. The freshman tallied 59 total snaps on the year.
Spaulding, a high school teammate of running back Kevin Harris, will still have four years to play at South Carolina with eligibility restrictions being lifted due to the COVID pandemic in 2020.
The defensive back will add much needed depth to a secondary room that is in desperate need of bodies. The Gamecocks have lost six members of last season’s secondary as Jaycee Horn and Israel Mukuamu have opted for the NFL, while Shilo Sanders, John Dixon, Jammie Robinson, and RJ Roderick either have or intend to transfer.
Spaulding becomes the fourth transfer from the Peach State for the Gamecocks this cycle, as Shane Beamer and Co. have landed the commitments of Georgia Tech wide receiver Ahmarean Brown, as well as JUCO defenders Isaiah Norris and Marcellas Dial, both of whom hail from Georgia Military College.
Spaulding may have an opportunity to compete for a starting role right away, with the team currently only having three players at the cornerback position in Joey Hunter, O’Donnell Fortune, and Cam Smith.
Coming out of Braswell Institute in Hinesville, GA, Spaulding was considered to be a three-star recruit, and the 90th best cornerback in the nation. He committed to the Eagles over Cincinnati, and also held offers Appalachian State, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Duke, East Carolina, Marshall, and Tulane.
