The South Carolina football team landed a commitment at a position of need.

The Gamecocks landed a Christmas day commitment from junior college cornerback Isaiah Norris on Friday evening, adding a player to the thinnest position room on the team. South Carolina has seen six defensive backs opt out of the program through either intentions to transfer or professional football aspirations.

Norris adds much needed depth to a secondary that has only four scholarship players with in-game action.

Originally from Anderson, SC, Norris attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. The three-star prospect had been committed to the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, but withdrew that pledge after landing the South Carolina offer. He also held offers from Tennessee and Washington State.

Norris is considered to be the eighth best JUCO cornerback, and ranks as the 67th best junior college prospect, regardless of position.

As a Bulldog, Norris recorded 37 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four interceptions last year.

He has plenty of ties to the program, having played with a number of players on the roster. Prior to his time in junior college, he spent four seasons at TL Hanna High School in the South Carolina upstate, where he was teammates with Gamecocks defensive tackle Zacch Pickens.

Norris becomes the second JUCO defensive back to join the class, as fellow Georgia Military College product Marcellas Dial inked his letter of intent last Wednesday during the early signing period. Norris, too, signed last week but wanted to wait for Christmas to make the announcement public.

Though he signed early, he doesn’t plan to enroll until the summer. With the addition, South Carolina’s 10-player class moves up to 100th nationally.
