South Carolina football: latest on Gamecocks coaching staff
By Jacob Elsey
South Carolina football is still in the process of piecing together a staff.
Shane Beamer was hired less than two weeks ago, following the firing of then- head coach Will Muschamp. As is the case with most coaching changes, a new supporting cast will also be coming to Columbia. Beamer’s intention is to hire what he called a ‘premiere staff’ due to his many connections in the college football landscape, having spent more than 20 years in the industry.
Throughout the interview process, Beamer laid out his top options to Ray Tanner and the South Carolina administration, and those options were obviously enough to give Beamer the edge for the head coaching gig. According to the new Gamecock leader, he’s still in touch with each of his top choices, at both OC and DC, and has heard from at least one sitting coordinator in each Power Five conference with interest in the openings.
"“Every single ‘A’ that I had on that list is still very much in the mix to come to Columbia.”"
So what might the new staff look like? Obviously, there will be newcomers, but there is a possibility that there will be some holdovers, as well.
Here’s the latest on what we’re hearing out of Columbia.
