South Carolina football: finding positives in a season of struggles

Ernest Jones leads team in tackles for second straight season

Jones has been the leader in the middle of the South Carolina defense for three years now, Last season, he led the team with 97 takedowns. He followed that up with an 86-tackle performance in 2020, finishing in the top five SEC performers, averaging 9.6 tackles per contest.

Jones had two games in which he recorded 18 or more takedowns, and was named a semifinalist for the Dickk Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker. He’ll now move on to the NFL, after finishing his career with 199 total tackles.

JJ Enagbare leads SEC in sacks

Enagbare had a breakout season in terms of getting to opposing quarterbacks, recording a league-leading six sacks. Even more impressive, he did this while missing the season’s final two games with an injury.

The junior has now racked up 10.5 quarterback takedowns in his career, and could be in line for a starting role and career season should he return to Columbia in 2020.
