South Carolina football lost its fifth consecutive game Saturday night.
South Carolina fell to the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday night by a score of 45-16, dropping their fifth game in as many tries. An undermanned Gamecock defense failed to stop the Bulldog attack, allowing more than 40 points for the fourth time in their last five matchups.
Georgia jumped out to an early 21-0 lead and never looked back. Quarterback JT Daniels only threw for 139 yards, but he wasn’t asked to do too much as the Bulldogs ran roughshod over the Gamecock defense, totaling 332 yards on the ground.
The Bulldogs had four players rush for more than 75 yards, including a 104-yard performance from James Cook, who toted the rock just six times. Zamir White added another 84 yards and two scores, as Georgia tailbacks averaged more than eight yards a carry.
South Carolina’s offense, on the other hand, struggled for most of the day, amassing just 273 yards and two touchdowns. Kevin Harris led the way with 53 rushing yards and a score, but the freshman Luke Doty failed to get the team in much of a rhythm in his first career start. The youngster threw for 190 yards, but couldn’t get much going on the ground.
The story of the game was the rushing discrepancy and third down conversions, which the Bulldogs were successful on 80% of the time. The run game got them into third-and-manageable time after time, and the South Carolina defense was unable to get off the field.
The Gamecocks will suit up one last time when they square off with Kentucky next Saturday in the final game of the year. Hopefully the results will be much different in that season ending matchup.
