In a rainy day in Williams-Brice Stadium, the Gamecocks and Bulldogs produced another back and forth classic.

The two teams traded first half blows, with South Carolina taking a 24-13 lead into the intermission. Georgia battled back though, making it a 38-35 game, and having a goal-to-go situation with a chance to take a fourth quarter lead. It seemed an inevitable conclusion that the Bulldogs would hand the ball off to Heisman candidate Todd Gurley and march into the endzone.

Instead, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo called a couple of unsuccessful pass plays, and the team settled for a chip shot field goal that was eventually missed.

South Carolina would find a way to run out the clock, with Dylan Thompson’s fourth down sneak securing the outcome. A dramatic measurement showed that Thompson was able to move the chains and run off the final minute of action.

The latest edition of the rivalry saw a double overtime thriller in Sanford Stadium. South Carolina used three interceptions from Israel Mukuamu, one of which was returned for a score, to pull out a three-point upset. The Gamecocks entered the game as 24.5 point underdogs.

South Carolina led for the majority of the game, behind a strong defensive performance, but the Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 17 with under two minutes remaining in regulation.

After an interception on Georgia’s first drive of overtime, and a missed field goal by South Carolina, the game went into a second period, where it would ultimately be decided.

The Gamecocks took a 20-17 lead on a Parker White field goal, and the South Carolina defense would hold the Bulldogs to a field goal attempt of their own. The typically reliable Rodrigo Blankenship pulled his kick to the left, though, and the celebration on the Gamecock sidelines ensued.
