South Carolina football lost its 3rd commitment Tuesday night.

Bryce Steele became the third member of South Carolina’s 2021 recruiting class to decommit from the program this week, joining wide receivers Rodarius Thomas and Simeon Price. All three players made their decisions to cut ties with the program following the firing of former head coach Will Muschamp.

Steele, a defensive prospect from North Carolina, was one of the Gamecocks’ top commits. He was rated by 247 Sports as a four-star player and the 18th best inside linebacker prospect in the country.

The Raleigh native announced his decision on Twitter.

"I am very appreciative of the Gamecocks family for supporting me over the past several months. I am most thankful for the opportunity to play at the University of South Carolina. I want to especially thank the USC coaching staff for recruiting me and believing in my talents. After careful thoughts and prayers, I am decommitting from the University of South Carolina. It is the best decision for me at this time."

Steele was one of the first members of the 2021 class, committing way back in April. He made his pledge to the Gamecocks over programs like Duke, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas, and Virginia Tech.

With the decommitment, the Gamecocks’ recruiting class falls to 63rd in the nation, sandwiched in between Appalachian State and South Florida. The class now has 13 total commits, but time will tell whether or not that number continues to drop.
