South Carolina football lost its 1st commitment following the firing of Will Muschamp.

Three-star wide receiver Rodarius Thomas decommitted from the University of South Carolina last Friday, less than a week removed from the school’s firing of head coach Will Muschamp. Thomas, a pass catcher from Eufaula, Alabama, made the announcement on his Twitter page.

"I want to thank the Gamecocks for supporting me these few months and especially for the opportunity to play at South Carolina. I would like to thank the coaches for recruiting me and believing in me. With that being said, I will be decommitting from the University of South Carolina. I have thought long and hard about my decision and I feel it is best form me to open my recruitment back up and continue on my journey of playing the game that I love."

Thomas initially made his pledge to the Gamecocks back on October 8th, becoming part of a 16 member 2021 recruiting class. Following the decommitment, South Carolina now has only three wide receiver prospects set to sign with the program this cycle.

Thomas is regarded by 247 Sports as th110th best player in the nation, as well as the 27th best player in the state of Alabama, regardless of position.

He currently holds offers from Austin Peay, Coastal Carolina, Mississippi State, Missouri State, North Alabama, South Alabama, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and Western Kentucky. As often occurs following a coaching change, Thomas could be just the first of many defects in the current class.

The Gamecocks now have the 12th best recruiting class in the Southeastern Conference.
