South Carolina football: Rodarius Thomas commits to Gamecocks

The South Carolina football team lands commitment from Alabama WR.

Will Muschamp tweeted out his patented ‘Spur Up’ message Thursday afternoon, signaling a new commitment to the South Carolina football program. Eufala (Ala.) wideout Rodarius Thomas announced his intent to join the 2021 recruiting class just a week and a half after receiving an offer from the Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound pass catcher, who also garnered offers from Austin Peay, Coastal Carolina, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, Troy, and Western Kentucky, chose the Gamecocks due to his relationship with recruiter Joe Cox.

"“After talking with coach Cox ever since this summer, I know he believed in me and then gave me an offer. I feel like coach Cox is a great coach and that he will push me to become better and better when I come home.”"

He joins a 2021 class that includes wide receiver commits O’Mega Blake, Sam Reynolds, Simeon Price, and Derwin Brugess, Jr. The Gamecocks are in desperate need of pass catchers, and Thomas could help fill the void.

So far this season, he’s hauled in 33 receptions for a total of 611 yards and nine touchdowns. Last year as a junior, Thomas recorded 45 catches, 957 yards, and 14 scores. He’s rated by Rivals as a three-star prospect.

The Yellowhammer State native is happy to be coming to Columbia, with a chance to play in the SEC. He looks forward to joining his new teammates at South Carolina next season.

With Thomas’s pledge, the South Carolina recruiting class moves up to 41st in the nation, just a spot behind Penn State. Thomas is the class’s 17th commitment.
