Can the South Carolina football team take down the Gators?

KEY MATCHUPS

Carolina DL v. Florida OL

This matchup could make or break the Carolina defense. If the Gamecocks can apply pressure consistently without blitzing, they’ll have a chance to disrupt the Florida passing game. If not, it could spell trouble for the secondary. South Carolina will need another big night from Enagbare, and some help from some of his teammates.

Kyle Pitts v. DBs

Who matches up with Kyle Pitts? He’s too athletic to throw a linebacker on him. He’s too big to cover with a cornerback. If he’s able to run free in the secondary like he did last weekend, the Gamecocks will be in for a long day.

GAMECOCK TO WATCH

Xavier Legette

Legette played well in his season opener, but he’ll need to be even better in week two. The Gators will certainly keep the focus on Shi Smith after his big day against the Vols, so Legette will need to provide Collin Hill with a reliable second option.

Expect the Gators to give Legette some one-on-one coverages as they try to take away Smith on the other side of the field. The youngster will need to get open and come down when some catches when called upon.

PREDICTION

The Gamecocks’ defense will pose a tougher challenge for the Florida offense, but the Gators will still get their points. The key will be whether or not the South Carolina offense can successfully move the ball, control the clock, and keep pace with its opponent. I see the Gamecocks hanging around through halftime with the Gators pulling away late.
