South Carolina football: Will Muschamp’s Vegas odds of being fired
By Jacob Elsey
South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp is on the hottest seat in the SEC, according to Vegas.
The Gamecocks are ramping up for a week one matchup on Saturday against Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee. Will Muschamp may be feeling more pressure than most around the South Carolina football program, at least in the eyes of the folks in Las Vegas.
SportsBetting.ag recently released its odds for the first SEC coach to be fired, and the Gamecocks’ head coach topped the list.
Will Muschamp was listed with 2-to-1 odds of being the first coach in the league to be fired. Right behind him is Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason, who’s odds were set at 9-to-4. Below are the outlooks for each SEC head coach.
"Will Muschamp 2/1Derek Mason 9/4Jeremy Pruitt 3/1Gus Malzahn 5/1Sam Pittman 8/1Lane Kiffin 10/1Mike Leach 10/1Jimbo Fisher 14/1Eli Drinkwitz 20/1Mark Stoops 20/1Dan Mullen 33/1Kirby Smart 33/1Ed Orgeron 50/1Nick Saban 100/1"
Talk of Muschamp being on the hot seat began last year, as the team finished 4-8, losing five of their final six games of the season. Over its last three games, the Gamecock offense found the endzone just once, leading to the removal of Bryan McClendon as play caller. Mike Bobo was brought in this offseason to replace McClendon as offensive coordinator. Muschamp’s future could hinge on Bobo’s performance.
Muschamp will look to get the Gamecocks off to a 1-0 start, in what is a brutal 2020 slate. They’ll take on Tennessee at home this Saturday before having to face four top 15 teams in its next five games. If the team struggles early out of the gate, we could be counting down the days of having Muschamp on the Carolina sidelines.
