South Carolina football: Is Will Muschamp on the hot seat?
By Jacob Elsey
The South Carolina football team faces one of the hardest schedules in the nation.
REASON 2: Schedule difficulty
The Gamecocks lost Clemson from the schedule when the SEC moved to a league-only format for 2020, but the slate as a whole got significantly more difficult. Phil Steele recently released updated strength of schedules for all FBS programs planning to participate on the gridiron this fall, and the Gamecocks ranked fourth.
South Carolina faces five ranked opponents over their first six games of the year, including four matchups against teams ranked in the preseason top 15. They also play No. 4 Georgia later in the season.
A rough year could be in store, especially if the Gamecocks get off to an 0-2 start vs. Tennessee and Florida, but leniency will be given in this unprecedented ten-game SEC season.
