South Carolina football is trying to reel in the state’s top prospect.

The South Carolina football currently has 16 commitments in its class of 2021, which ranks 41st best in the nation. The Gamecocks aren’t done yet, though. The program has its eyes set on the Palmetto State’s best player, as Will Muschamp attempts to lock up the state of South Carolina’s best prospect for the third consecutive season.

Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins is a four-star product from Gaffney. The defensive lineman is considered by 247Sports to be the 86th best player in the country, as well as the nation’s fifth best defensive tackle.

Ingram-Dawkins revealed a top four last night that included the Gamecocks, Georgia Bulldogs, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Tennessee Volunteers. Wherever he ultimately decides to go, he plans to do it early. Ingram-Dawkins has stated his desire to enroll early, wanting to get a head start at the college level.

Last month, the defensive lineman said that South Carolina and Tennessee were his leaders, with Georgia being a “contender,” and Alabama being in the mix. The Tide have apparently fallen out of contention for now.

If he joins the South Carolina class, Ingram-Dawkins will become Will Muschamp’s top commit for 2021. And it looks like the Gamecocks have a slight leg up on the competition, with four of the five 247Sports crystal ball predictions going to South Carolina. The lone pick not in the Gamecocks’ favor belongs to Georgia.

Should South Carolina secure Ingram-Dawkins’ commitment, the class would leap from 41st to 32nd nationally. It would give the Gamecocks the 10th best class in the Southeastern Conference.
