The South Carolina football team landed a commitment from the nation’s top QB.

Gunner Stockton is the top dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2022, hailing from Rabun County High School. The Georgia native follows a slew of highly rated signal callers to commit to the Gamecocks, including the likes of Luke Doty, Ryan Hilinski, Dakereon Joyner, and Jake Bentley.

Stockton is considered by 247Sports to be the 24th best player in the country, regardless of position. He becomes the highest rated quarterback commit in South Carolina program history, overtaking the spot once held by former signal caller Stephen Garcia.

Stockton chose South Carolina over the likes of Georgia, Alabama, and Penn State. He’d narrowed his decision to two schools in late July, with this ultimately being a battle between the Gamecocks and hometown Bulldogs.

In an interview with Rivals, Gunner Stockton stated the following about Gamecock offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and his belief in head coach Will Muschamp.

"“At the age of six or seven, coach (George) Bobo (Offensive coordinator Mike’s father) showed me how to throw a football. He then talked my dad into making me into a QB instead of a LB. Now that I have built a relationship with coach Mike, I see the same qualities in him that I love about his dad. He is a family man that is competitive, loyal, and Christ like. You can’t ask for more than that.”"

Stockton ultimately believes in Coach Will Muschamp, and has spoken about the potential of building a championship program in Columbia.

"“I believe championships can be won in South Carolina. The facilities are in place, the support is there, and it’s ready to take off. It’s well documented the relationship that I have with the (Jaybo) Shaw and Bobo family, but when I went to watch South Carolina practice, I found myself watching coach Muschamp more than anybody else. His energy was unreal, and you could see the players respond to him. Then, I met with him in his office and he was extremely easy to talk to. He believes in South Carolina and he wants to bring the fans a championship. I loved everything about who and what he stands for.”"

Stockton has notched 6,390 yards and 77 touchdowns in his high school career, as he prepares to move forward into his junior season.

This news is sure to brighten Gamecock fans days as earlier today fans discovered that four-star running back MarShawn Lloyd has torn his ACL and will miss his entire first season in South Carolina.
