South Carolina football: 5 freshmen to watch in 2020
By Jacob Elsey
Dominick Hill
Hill joins a crowded Gamecock secondary, but he’s already proven that he belongs. The youngster started at corner but was soon moved to safety, where he’s earning early respect from defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson. Hill was rated as a three-star prospect coming out of high school.
Coach Muschamp has shown he’s not afraid to play freshmen early, as demonstrated by his starting Jammie Robinson at safety and nickelback a season ago. The best players will see the field, and Hill may be sliding up the depth chart.
Kai Kroeger
Kroeger came to Columbia ranked as the third-best punter in the country, according to 247Sports. He may now be tasked will replacing the program’s all-time leader at the position.
Joseph Charlton is off the NFL after posting a record senior season that saw him become the program’s all-time leader in punting average. Kroeger will battle with transfer Christian Kinsley to earn the starting job.
