The South Carolina football team has had a number of great defensive backs come through the program. Does it deserve consideration as DBU?

The Gamecocks have had a number of fantastic defensive backs to come through the program, particularly since the turn of the 21st century. Many have gone on to lengthy professional careers following productive stints in the garnet and black.

Schools like Florida, LSU, and Ohio State are typically the first names to be brought up in discussions over which university should be anointed “DBU,” and rightfully so, as they’ve produced great talents over the years. But where does South Carolina stand in the debate, and do they deserve a place at the table?

Since 2000, the Gamecocks have had 18 members of their secondary selected in the NFL draft. Seven of those players were chosen over the first two days of the event, with three being first round picks.

Let’s go through some of these players and their accomplishments as we present South Carolina’s case to be called DBU.
