Junior College transfer ZaQuandre White has been cleared to join the South Carolina football team.
Class of 2020 running back ZaQuandre White has officially been cleared to join the South Carolina football team. The junior college transfer was finishing up his final coursework at Iowa Western Community College over the summer, and has now met the necessary academic requirements to enroll to the university. White was the top ranked JUCO running back in the latest recruiting class.
In his lone season at Iowa Western, the tailback averaged 109.5 rushing yards per game, good for second among all NJCAA rushers. He finished the year with 876 yards on just 137 carries, an average of over six yards a pop. The junior-to-be also added 10 touchdowns on the ground.
White eclipsed the century mark in five of his eight appearances, going for a season-high 245 yards in an August matchup against Iowa Central. He also contributed in the return game, fielding 10 kickoffs and a punt.
White originally signed with Florida State in the class of 2017 as a four-star prospect out of North Fort Myers, where he redshirted before ultimately being switched to linebacker. In 2018, he recorded 22 tackles over 11 games before opting to leave Tallahassee.
He joins a Gamecock running back room that has very little experience. Three seniors from last year’s team are gone, and only two sophomores return in Deshaun Fenwick and Kevin Harris. Together, they’ve accounted for just 64 carries and 405 yards.
White will battle Fenwick, Harris, and incoming freshmen Rashad Amos and MarShawn Lloyd for time in the Carolina backfield. He will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact as both a runner and returner in the upcoming season.
