South Carolina Gamecocks: Best firework finishes since joining the SEC
By Jacob Elsey
In the 1997-98 Gamecock basketball season, South Carolina took on the 18th-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats in the old Carolina Coliseum, which would prove to be one of the best games of the decade.
Trailing 65-64 with 4.1 seconds remaining, coach Eddie Fogler drew up an inbounds play, though it may not have gone according to plan.
The Gamecocks got the ball in the hands of their best player, BJ McKie, who was quickly double-teamed by the Bearcat defense. He dished it off to Antonio Grant who threw up a three with time expiring. The shot went in, giving the Gamecocks a 67-65 win, and completing what was a 31-point South Carolina comeback.
The Gamecocks would go on to a 23-win season and an NCAA tournament appearance.
