7. TARENCE KINSEY’S NIT WINNER
The Gamecocks made it to the NIT championship game in ’04-’05 season, squaring off against St. Joe’s in Madison Square Garden. Dave Odom’s bunch had won 19 games and was looking for No. 20.
The Hawks came into the game at 24-11, having won the Atlantic 10 regular season title. The Gamecocks led by five with less than 20 seconds remaining, but St. Joe’s would hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 57-57.
With 7.5 seconds left, Tarence Kinsey dribbled down the court, throwing up a three as time expired. The shot found the bottom of the net, giving the Gamecocks a 60-57 win and the first of two straight NIT championships.
