South Carolina Gamecocks: Best firework finishes since joining the SEC

2. BRANDON BENNETT OVER THE TOP
The 1993 matchup between the Gamecocks and 14th ranked Georgia Bulldogs saw one of the most memorable plays in Carolina football history.
South Carolina stood on the Georgia goal line with the game’s final moments ticking off the clock, trailing 21-17. Gamecock running back Brandon Bennett took a handoff and attempted, unsuccessfully, to leap over the Bulldog defense. With the last seconds winding down, fabled broadcaster Larry Munson famously told his Bulldogs to lay down, hoping for the clock to expire before the Gamecocks could get off a final play.
Unfortunately for Munson and the Bulldogs, his wishes were denied. Scrambling back to the line of scrimmage, quarterback Steve Taneyhill called the same play, but this time Bennett broke the plane as the final second ticked off, giving the Gamecocks as 23-21 win in Athens.
Munson’s call defined one of the great moments in Gamecock football, and the play is forever ingrained in the memories of South Carolina fans across the country.
