South Carolina Football: Simeon Price commits to Gamecocks
By Jacob Elsey
The South Carolina football team picked up its 12th commitment for the 2021 recruiting class on Wednesday.
The South Carolina football program started the month of July off with some fireworks. Simeon Price of Pensacola, Florida committed to the Gamecocks around noon on Wednesday, becoming the latest member in a 12-player recruiting class. The announcement was made on Price’s Twitter page, which was followed by a #SpursUp from head coach Will Muschamp.
Price is rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports, with the latter ranking him as the nation’s 824th best player regardless of position. His offer sheet lists nearly 20 schools, with the headliners being Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
Price, though listed on some sites as a wide receiver, is being recruited by the Gamecock coaching staff as an athlete, with the ability to play at multiple spots. Those possibilities include tailback, defensive back, and receiver.
With his verbal commitment, Price becomes the third prospect to join the class as an athlete, following suit of O’Mega Blake and Jayden Johnson. Both Johnson and Blake announced their commitments to the Gamecocks last month.
Price is also the first player to hail from the Sunshine State, with the class now having prospects from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
With the commitment, the Gamecocks’ 2021 class breaks into the top 40 nationally, as South Carolina now sits at No. 39, sandwiched between West Virginia and Wake Forest. That ranking could jump even higher in the coming week, with two Gamecock targets, in-state defensive tackle TJ Sanders and Georgia athlete Derwin Burgess, expected to make a commitment to their schools of choice over the next few days.
