South Carolina Football: Ten Best Individual Performance of the Decade
By Jacob Elsey
1. CONNOR SHAW VS. MISSOURI (2013)
Shaw didn’t make his first appearance until late in the third quarter of a 2013 meeting between South Carolina and Missouri, with his team trailing 17-0. Suffering a knee injury the week prior, it wasn’t even certain that Shaw would suit up against the Tigers. Luckily for the Gamecocks, he did.
With nothing going right over the first 40 minutes of the game, head coach Steve Spurrier decided to give his senior quarterback a shot. Over the final quarter of the game and into overtime, the Gamecocks outscored the Tigers 27-7. Shaw threw for over 200 yards and three touchdowns, leading South Carolina to scores on each of his final five drives. Carolina would win in double overtime, 27-24.
The 17-point comeback was one of the largest of the decade, and Shaw’s brilliant second half performance ended the fifth-ranked Missouri Tigers’ undefeated dream season.
