GEORGIA 2012

The 2012 South Carolina team was maybe the most talented of any in the program’s history.  And on an early October night in Columbia, the undefeated Gamecocks were ranked No. 6 in the nation, getting ready to take on the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs brought Todd Gurley and Aaron Murray to town, looking to get revenge after the Gamecocks took down Georgia 45-42 the year prior.

But this one would be all Gamecocks from the get-go.  In the first quarter, South Carolina scored three times, jumping out to a 21-0 lead that they’d take into halftime.  The play of the first-half was a 70-yard punt return by Ace Sanders.

The lead would grow to 35-0 in the second half, but the Bulldogs avoided the goose-egg by scoring with two minutes remaining in the game.  It was the most dominant performance of the decade and came against a team with national championship aspirations.

After the game, Georgia running back Todd Gurley said that it was the loudest stadium he’s ever played in.  The Gamecocks moved up to third in the AP poll before dropping a heartbreaker in Baton Rouge the following week.  Only one team in school history has ever been ranked higher.
