South Carolina Football: Six Best Wins of the Decade
By Jacob Elsey
GEORGIA 2019
Last season had few bright spots, but one was the upset win over Georgia between the hedges. Entering the game as 24-point underdogs, the Gamecock defense put up its best performance of the year, helping South Carolina secure an overtime victory.
Gamecock cornerback Israel Mukuamu picked off Bulldog quarterback Jake Fromm three times, one of which he returned for a score. South Carolina would take a 17-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Things looked bleak in the second half, even with the Gamecocks leading, as starting quarterback Ryan Hilinski went down with an injury. Carolina would be held scoreless the final two quarters of play, and Georgia would score a game-tying touchdown with less than two minutes remaining.
In overtime, the Bulldogs would throw their third interception of the game, setting the Gamecocks up for a win. Unfortunately, Elliott Fry would miss a game-winning field goal attempt, sending the game to double overtime.
Fry connected on his next try, setting the stage for the Bulldogs’ final drive. South Carolina stopped the offense, forcing a field goal attempt, which Rodrigo Blankenship pulled wide left, securing the Gamecock upset.
