DESHAUN FENWICK

Deshaun Fenwick seems to be the forgotten man in the Carolina backfield.  The redshirt sophomore has been waiting patiently behind upperclassmen for his first opportunity.  Now, though, seniors Rico Dowdle, Tavien Feaster, and Mon Denson are gone, opening up a healthy competition at the tailback position.

Still, incoming recruit MarShawn Lloyd seems to be garnering all of the offseason attention from fans, as many expect him to step directly into the starting running back role when the fall rolls around.

Fenwick will have something to say about that.

The Georgia native is a big-bodied runner that possesses power and vision.  He’s made just two starts in his Gamecock career, both of which have been 100-yard performances, with one of those coming in SEC play.  He owns a 5.3 yards per carry average in his seven appearances.

Fenwick hasn’t gone unnoticed by new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who’s under-center offensive approach may fit Fenwick’s running style more suitably than the previous shotgun/spread philosophy that was implemented by the last coaching staff.

And here’s what coach Bobo had to say about Fenwick’s attitude and on-field production in the spring.

"“He’s running physical and showing some toughness in the competition and blocking drills coach Muschamp puts them through with offense versus defense guys. He has good hands. And he’s a smart kid. I’ve been really pleased with him.”"

He’ll certainly be among the top group as the running back competition plays out.  Here’s to Fenwick earning more playing time in 2020 and becoming a force in the Carolina backfield.
