NOTRE DAME

The Gamecocks haven’t played the Fighting Irish since the Black Magic season of 1984, which ended in a 36-32 Carolina victory.  Notre Dame won the three meetings prior, which all occurred between 1976 and 1983.  The matchup makes sense in many ways.  Both share a legendary head coach in Lou Holtz, both were Independents prior to South Carolina moving to the SEC, and with the Irish transitioning to an ACC schedule, the teams share many similar opponents.

Notre Dame isn’t afraid to schedule against the SEC, either, as noted by their recent matchups with Georgia.  They’re one of the most recognizable brands in college football, and traveling to South Bend is high on many fans’ bucket lists.  This game would be a welcomed blast-from-the-past for Gamecock Nation.
