South Carolina Football – Impact Seniors
By Jacob Elsey
The college football season is quickly approaching, and with everything that’s going on in the world of sports, it can’t arrive soon enough.
The Gamecocks are coming off of a disappointing 4-8 season after losing five of their final six games. Will Muschamp and his staff are looking to right the ship in 2020, and get back to the progress that was seen over his first three years as head coach.
Last year’s team was extremely young, being led by a true freshman quarterback, and having underclassmen seeing significant time on both offense and defense. They also bring in a recruiting class that ranked 17th in the country, headlined by Top 50 prospects Jordan Burch and Marshawn Lloyd.
South Carolina does lose some playmakers in the backfield and across the defensive line, as well as a record-breaking wide receiver in Bryan Edwards. They’ll need to find a way to replace its top four running backs from last season, as Rico Dowdle, Tavian Feaster, Mon Denson, and AJ Turner have all graduated. The Gamecocks also lose future first-round pick Javon Kinlaw and BUCK DJ Wonnum.
Finally, we look at the senior class, which includes a graduate transfer from Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo’s previous stop, last season’s sack leader, a defensive lineman returning from injury, and a receiver that will look to become the new #1 target for quarterback Ryan Hilinksi.
