GEAR UP FOR THE MLB OPENER (WHENEVER THAT MAY BE)

Get ready for the upcoming MLB season, even if we don’t yet have a set date for Opening Day.  There are tons of former Gamecocks who’ve made their mark in the big leagues, and a few more looking to find success.

You’ll recognize a lot of names from those College World Series teams, including last year’s hits leader Whit Merrifield and nightly highlight reel Jackie Bradley, Jr.

Below is a full list of Gamecocks on current MLB rosters:

–          Jackie Bradley, Jr. (BOS)

–          Sam Dyson (MIN)

–          Grayson Greiner (DET)

–          Whit Merrifield (KC)

–          Jordan Montgomery (NYY)

–          Justin Smoak (MIL)

–          Christian Walker (ARI)

–          Tyler Webb (STL)

Former World Series MVP Steve Pearce was also on that list, but in December, he made the decision to “unofficially retire.”  It looks like he’ll be hanging up the cleats after a 13-year career.

As of now, the MLB is still holding out hope that it will be able to fit a 2020 season in, even if shortened.  For our sake, let’s all hope that it happens sooner rather than later so we no longer have a need for lists like this.
