South Carolina football Head Coach Will Muschamp holds a film review session.

Head Coach Will Muschamp did some film review on Vanderbilt, South Carolina football’s opponent this week. The Gamecocks will head to Nashville this Saturday to take on the Commodores, their first road game of the season.

Gamecocks Athletics tweeted out the film session, which you can view below:

Take aways from the film session

During the film session review, coach Muschamp was very complimentary of Vanderbilt’s run game. Coach Muschamp stated that the defense would “need to stay away” from “explosive runs.”

South Carolina Head Coach Will Muschamp really sang the praises of Vanderbilt quarterback Kyle Shurmur. He explains that the run game could cause a problem for the Gamecocks defense because “Shurmur is so effective throwing the football.” He also stated that Shurmur is a “very experienced player” and that he has “really nice ball placement” on some of the throws seen during the film review.

Coach Muschamp explained that “we’re not going to fool this guy” in reference to Shurmur. Once again later in the session calling him a “really good football player.”

Muschamp was very high on the Commodore’s defense as well. According to Muschamp, the Vanderbilt defense is a “very aggressive unit.”

He stated that Vanderbilt’s defense has “done a much better job of really holding the edges” when referring to how they have played against quarterback runs, so far this season.

Later in the film review session Head Coach Will Muschamp mentioned again that Vanderbilt’s defense was playing with “aggressiveness.” Coach Muschamp also explained that they are really “closing quick on the football” and that they have ” a lot of guys getting to the football.”

Overall, the film review showed that the Gamecocks will have their hands full on Saturday. By all appearances, South Carolina will not take Vanderbilt lightly this weekend.
