South Carolina football held their weekly press conference Tuesday afternoon.

South Carolina football Head Coach Will Muschamp met with the media Tuesday to discuss this week’s game against Vanderbilt. He started off the press conference by sending out “thoughts and prayers” to those who have been affected by Hurricane Florence.

Coach Muschamp was very high on the entire Vanderbilt team. You can watch the entirety of the press conference, originally posted by gamecocksonline.com:

It appears from the press conference that the South Carolina football coach is in no way taking the Vanderbilt Commodores lightly.

Coach Muschamp called Vanderbilt quarterback Kyle Shurmur an “outstanding player”. He also noted that after watching the film it easy to “gain respect” for him. Shurmur has been the long time starter and has total control over the Vanderbilt offense. Shurmur caused fits for the South Carolina football team in Williams-Brice Stadium last season.

He was also very complimentary of the Vanderbilt defense. Coach Muschamp stated that they have “a lot of experience” on the defensive side of the ball, and very “aggressive play.”

Head Coach Will Muschamp was also very excited about his own team. He said that the Gamecocks had a very “competitive practice” last Thursday, a day after their game against Marshall had been canceled due to the impending Hurricane Florence.

Clearly due to the storms and the cancellation of the Marshall game, it could be expected for the team to lose a little focus. Coach Muschamp said that he told the players that “it will only be a distraction if you allow it to be.”

Here is hoping that the Gamecocks listened to their coach and don’t allow their focus to slip.
