The South Carolina football program needs new leadership. Defense wins championships but will the Gamecocks go with a defensive coach now that their offensive mastermind has hung up his visor?
Monday night on October 12th it was announced that Steve Spurrier was going to retire immediately in the middle of the Gamecocks season after their 45-24 loss to LSU.
Shawn Elliot has taken over as the interim head coach for the Gamecocks with G.A Mangus taking the role as offensive coordinator. One thing for sure is that South Carolina needs to bring in a promising coach to be the successor to a legendary coach that was Steve Spurrier.
One Coach not include in the five coaches in this article is current interim head coach Shawn Elliott. Elliott has serious passion for Gamecock football and you can tell it.

Elliott is from Camden South Carolina and he even said himself that he grew up loving the Gamecocks program and how he has dreamed of coaching the program someday. Elliott could be a good choice with the passion and intensity he has that could motivate the players to win some games.
Maybe Elliott will work out for the Gamecocks like Dabo Swinney did for Clemson when he came in as the interim head coach. With Elliot not having a proven track as a head coach and there being so many other better options you have to think Ray Tanner will look for something new and refreshing for the program.
Here are five potential candidates, some of which are already on South Carolina’s short list of possible hires.
