Fans putting Steve Spurrier on the hot seat in South Carolina

Steve Spurrier may be a legendary coach, but even legends have their time come to an end, and it may be that time for the Head Ball Coach.

South Carolina looked for their first SEC win today against Missouri but couldn’t pull it off, as the Gamecocks lost to the Tigers 24-10. Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks are now 2-3 and South Carolina fans are not happy one bit with the Head Ball Coach and his coaching staff.

According to David Cloning, Spurrier’s post game comments after his third SEC loss of the season to Missouri were that, “They’re a better team, better coaches”. This upset many fans, which is understandable because Spurrier has used this same excuse since last year, which would be fine if the Gamecocks were actually showing signs of improvement. Here’s what some fans had to say about the Head Ball Coach’s typical remarks after a loss,

Now if this were any other coach you would definitely say that their job was on the line and that indeed they would be on the hot seat with the type of season South Carolina is having. With Steve Spurrier you have a coach who has taken over and built a program from nearly nothing. So is it fair to call for a change after two consecutive horrible seasons?

That depends on what type of program South Carolina wants to be moving forward. Do you just keep living under the roof Spurrier has built for you while it’s still holding us up or do you cut ties and look for someone that can take it to new heights.

There is no doubting that the program is starting to fall and we have to make sure that doesn’t happen with teams like Kentucky, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee rising in talent. Steve Spurrier gave away most of the play calling to quarterback coach G.A. Mangus this week against Missouri which seemed to be a horrible choice with the Gamecocks only scoring 10 points, with one touchdown being pure luck.

Realistically Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks will probably finish this season 4-8. At best they could finish 5-7 if they upset Florida or Tennessee, which would still resort in the Gamecocks missing out on bowl season. One thing for sure to make sure next season doesn’t go like the past two is that Spurrier better stay off the golf course and start getting way more involved in recruiting.

Next Saturday Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks will again try for their first SEC win against Leonard Fournette and LSU.
