With all of the negativity surrounding the South Carolina Gamecocks football program after back to back losses to the Kentucky Wildcats and the Georgia Bulldogs, some positivity is long overdue. The Gamecocks currently have a record of 1-2 with a win over the North Carolina Tarheels to open the season. The Gamecocks schedule does not offer any room for error from this point forward so it is imperative that if the Gamecocks want to become bowl eligible, they find 5 more wins.
I know many think that it is a long shot to become bowl eligible by winning 6 games on the season especially after the Gamecocks blew a chance to beat Kentucky who are perennially one of weakest teams in the Southeastern Conference. Many view the program to be heading in a downward direction.
They bring up the struggles on defense. They point out the fact that the Gamecocks are in a position where they are using their 3rd different starting quarterback in 4 games. They talk about the troubles recruiting. I know because I have been one of those vocal about the problems.
I also don’t believe that the players and the coaching staff are ready to throw in the towel on the season after a rough start. Gamecocks scratch and claw until the very end. With these things in mind, I knew there had to be a way to get back on track that didn’t involve giving up on the season, finding a new coaching staff, or wondering when Spurrier’s final game would be. All I had to do was look at the schedule.
Here are five games the South Carolina Gamecocks can still win to become bowl eligible.
