The South Carolina Gamecocks got some good news today when offensive lineman Pete Leota gave his pledge to them in a ceremony at his school. Leota is the 15th member of the Gamecocks recruiting class of 2016. He is the fourth offensive lineman to commit in the class.
When asked about why he chose South Carolina, Leota stated,“I committed to South Carolina because of the coaches. I felt at home when I was down there. I loved the whole vibe of the campus and I really like Coach Elliott. He’s been an awesome recruiter throughout the process and also Coach Deke Adams has always been consistent staying in contact with me.” Leota added, “I also like the Gamecocks because they’re in the SEC. I just loved their whole program and what they have to offer. They also have some great food!”
Leota is rated as a 3 star recruit (.8341) according to the 247Sports Composite, although 247Sports rates him as a high 3 star (88). He comes in at a position of need for the Gamecocks after this season due to the departure of Brandon Shell and Mike Matulis. The team will be young next season on the offensive line and due to early departures of several offensive linemen over the last couple of seasons, the position has become rather thin in terms of depth.
With the addition of Leota, the Gamecocks currently sit 32nd in the nation in recruiting and 12th in the SEC. The 2016 class is almost full with most expecting the Gamecocks to sign right around 20 recruits.
