Mason Zandi

WARNING: Mason Zandi is a monster. He’s 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 314 pounds. I just felt that we needed to get that out of the way.

Zandi was rated a 3-star offensive tackle in the class of 2012 according to the 247Sports Composite (he was only 6’8, 265 back then). He was ranked the number 127 offensive tackle in the class. Surprisingly, his only other offer was from Clemson, which made for an easy choice to where he would be going to school.

Zandi will have to prove his worth as he will be counted on heavily this season as inexperience is abundant on the second team.

It was pretty clear to see that Zandi would be redshirting in his first season at South Carolina. In 2013, he was named the Most Improved Offensive Lineman. He played in every game and even started at tight end against Vanderbilt. Last season, Zandi played in every game but primarily on special teams.

He was limited during spring practice due to a hamstring injury. He will start at right tackle against North Carolina after Mike Matulis was moved to left guard. Zandi will have to prove his worth as he will be counted on heavily this season as inexperience is abundant on the second team. He’s had to wait 3 years for this opportunity so it’s time to make the best of the opportunity. “I’ve worked hard,” Zandi said in a post-practice interview. “There’s no nerves, no anxiety. I’m ready to play.”
