Al Harris Jr.

Al Harris Jr. was born to play football. The son of two time Pro Bowler Al-Harris, Harris Jr. was a 3-star rated recruit in the class of 2014 according to the 247Sports Composite. Like Lammons, the South Carolina coaching staff viewed Harris as a must have. He was the number 44 ranked cornerback in the class according to the Composite. He committed to South Carolina over offers from Florida State, UCLA, Arkansas, Penn State, and many others.

The Gamecocks will count on him to build upon his first season, and Harris Jr. knows he still has a lot to prove.

Harris Jr. played in 12 games as a freshman during the 2014 season and started in 4 of those games. He was credited with 21 tackles and 3 pass breakups for the year. His start against Texas A&M made him (and Bryson Allen-Williams) the first true freshmen to start since Jadeveon Clowney. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman team at the end of the year.

Entering the season, Harris Jr. is listed as the back up to Rico McWilliams, but should see plenty of action on the field this season. The Gamecocks will count on him to build upon his first season, and Harris Jr. knows he still has a lot to prove. “Instead of being like a robot, I can be free on the field,” he said. “I’m trying to play the ball better, break on routes. Just trying to make plays.”
