Gamecocks in the NFL: Jadeveon Clowney on pace to start Week 1

Former South Carolina defensive end, Jadeveon Clowney got some surprising news from the media after Wednesdays practice, he will most likely be healthy enough and is on pace to play week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs with the rate in which he as been progressing on healing his injury.

When Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien was asked about Clowney’s health he said, “The knee is feeling decent. We’ll keep inching him forward to get him ready to play in the first game,”, O’Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle. He made it clear that Jadeveon Clowney was on pace to start week 1.

Soon after O’Brien left the podium it was Clowney’s turn to talk to the media where he was surprised to hear what his coach said about his health status. NFL.com reports that Clowney replied with, “Oh, Bill said that, huh?” and then went on to say, “I’m working hard, coming out here with the team. We doing good. I’m feeling good. Just trying to keep working, and get better and better every day.”

Clowney racked up 129 tackles and 24 sacks in three years playing for the Gamecocks, so there is no doubting Houston fans are excited to see their former number one draft pick play on their field like he did at South Carolina. Last year, the Texans starting outside linebacker rookie stats were not even close as impressive having seven tackles, no sacks, and two knee surgeries in four games.

As a Gamecock fan I will pull for Jadeveon Clowney to come back strong and prove to the NFL why he was considered by most the sure number one draft pick since coming out of high school.
