Jerell Adams
Jerell Adams was a 3-star recruit in the class of 2011 according to the 247Sports Composite. He chose to go to South Carolina over offers from Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, and a few others. Adams did not immediately make it into South Carolina and had to make a detour to prep school at Fork Union Military Academy.
This season, Adams will be counted on more than ever due to inexperience at the quarterback position and a lack of proven play makers at wide receiver.
Adams joined the team in 2012, where he caught 4 balls for 90 yards and a touchdown leaving fans a glimpse of what could be a bright future. In 2013, Adams added on to that total with 13 reception for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Last season, with a true pocket passer in Dylan Thompson at quarterback, Spurrier decided to utilize more of the tight ends. Adams led the tight ends in receiving yards, amassing 279 yards on 21 receptions including 1 for a touchdown.
This season, Adams will be counted on more than ever due to inexperience at the quarterback position and a lack of proven play makers at wide receiver. “We keep thinking he’s going to bust out and have a big year, and he should this year,” said Spurrier on August 13. “It’s his last go-round. He’ll get a lot of opportunities, and hopefully, he’ll have a big year. I think he’s ready to go.”
