Gerald Dixon Jr.

Gerald Dixon Jr. was a pretty lightly recruited player coming out of high school. He was a 3-star rated recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. He chose the Gamecocks over the Maryland Terrapins in the recruiting class of 2011. He is the son of former Gamecock linebacker, Gerald Dixon and will play alongside his brother Gerald Dixon who is a defensive end.

  • With 15 starts under his belt, Dixon Jr. is the most experience lineman the Gamecocks have, although that hasn’t necessarily translated over on the stats sheet. For his career, he has 4 total tackles including 1.5 sacks and 1 interception coming against Kentucky in 2012. Interestingly, his half a sack came 2 years ago against North Carolina. The last sack occurred in the last game in the Gamecock’s Duck Commander Bowl win over Miami.

As a senior, South Carolina will look to Dixon Jr. to be a leader on the field this season. Ward stated in an interview Tuesday that Dixon Jr. would get the start against North Carolina. Surely, Dixon Jr. would like to top his performance from the last time the teams met.

He seems confident however, recently stating that the confidence and the chemistry along the defensive line is much better than it was last season.
