David Williams
David Williams was a highly sought after running back in high school. According to the 247Sports Composite, he was a 4-star rated recruit and number 6 all purpose back. Williams chose the Gamecocks over offers from Auburn, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and many others.
Since Williams stepped on campus, rumors swirled about how impressed the coaching staff have been with him. Many fans thought he may even beat Wilds out for the number two spot on the depth chart. He did not, but fans were able to get a taste of what was to come in 2014.
After redshirting his first season, Williams got some playing experience last season. He carried the ball 45 times for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns and caught 7 passes for 99 yards. His career high rushing is 110 yards on 11 carries against Furman. He also tallied 4 catches for 70 yards in the loss against Clemson.
This season, Williams figures to be a key component to an inexperienced offense. The Gamecocks will likely be leaning heavily on the rushing game to try and minimize mistakes in the passing game due to having no game tested quarterback and one game proven wide receiver. Williams will have his opportunity to shine.
