Steve Spurrier Speaks And Second Practice Notes

The Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier spoke today after day two of fall practices. He says it doesn’t matter who started last year, because you may get beat by the next guy and not start this year.  Spurrier says if anyone wants to know his style of coaching, that it is you earn your way every year, and that’s the way they do it.

Spurrier also goes on a rant against the media about how the coaches pick their starters randomly. He says that essentially the players decide if they are the starter or not, with of course the coaches judging every move. Here is a look at what else Spurrier had to say today after practice.

PRACTICE NOTES

-Spurrier praises Lornezo Nunez by saying he knows the playbook more than most normal freshman would, and that he knows how to stay in the pocket.

-Connor Mitch says his focus over the summer was to continue to learn the playbook as best as he can, and it’s up to Spurrier to decide on whether or not he’s the starter or not.

-Shawn Elliott confirmed that Mike Matulis is at Left Guard for now and that Zandi is at Right Tackle. After the first scrimmage they said they will know what changes will need to be made moving forward.

-Brandon Wilds basically named starter and that David Williams will have to pass him in order to become starter. It’s looking like it’s going to be a tough battle for the number one spot, but Wilds says he’s in the best shape he’s ever been in.
