South Carolina Defensive Lineman Ulric Jones: “Making it Here”

South Carolina Freshmen Ulric Jones, getting ready for his first season with the Gamecocks seemed extremely thankful for the opportunities and according to him, he is “Blessed”.

Gamecocks defensive lineman putting his time in to be an asset to the football program this fall, I had the pleasure to speak with Ulric on looking forward to life at USC.

Best thing about being at USC ?

UJ: ” So far….The weight program and conditioning. And being in the environment, closer to home, to play NCAA football.”

What is your biggest goals for 2015 ?  

UJ: ” To have a great academic year, And to help my team get an SEC title.”

Who is your biggest inspiration? Why?

UJ: ” My Dad, because he is dedicated and he motivates me. He keeps me grinding 24/7.”

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment to date ?

UJ: ” Making it here. Despite all odds against me or when some said I couldnt or wouldn’t, being here in SC proves that I did. You have to keep moving forward.”

Oxford, Alabama native Jones,  A Junior college player who played at Butler (Kan.) Community College… coached by Troy Morrell… earned honorable mention all-conference accolades in the Jayhawk Conference at defensive end… credited with 43 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2014 for a Grizzlies team that went 8-3… originally committed to Maryland before selecting the Gamecocks… graduated from Oxford (Ala.) High School in 2013… selected Mississippi State out of high school… will have three years to play two.

Jones said his favorite hobbies include  “Making Snapchat stories and listening to music.”  On his everyday view of life and all new experiences to come he simply stated, ” The Lord keeps blessing, so Im gonna keep Grinding.”
