Here at Garnet and Cocky, we hope that we’re providing a great service to South Carolina Gamecocks fans. We have experienced tremendous growth over the past few months.

But we’re looking to take it one step further. The desire for Gamecocks news, especially for football and recruiting, is constant on a year-round basis. Fans are looking for the fastest, most-up-to-date and compelling content–and we want to be the site that provides that. Our overall goal is not just to provide a look at what’s going on, but to provide analysis and opinion that fans won’t find anywhere else.

We’re looking for more than just the same ole’ game recaps that twenty other sites might already do well.  We’re looking for interesting stories from the games, about the players, about the trends, or a humorous look at something, or the story behind the story – basically more of a fan site.  With so many sites out there dedicated to this already, our stories have to be interesting and different for people to be compelled to click the links and read the stories.

That’s where you come in.

Garnet and Cocky is looking to shore up its resources and add new writers to the fray. You’ll be responsible for covering the teams, players and stories that Gamecocks Nation is talking about. If you have a passion for Gamecock sports, know your stuff and are reliable, we have a place for you. Past blogging/writing experience is very helpful, but certainly not required. We would require at minimum a post per week (four a month), but any contributions beyond that would definitely be helpful.

Another plus: the FanSided Network (of which G&C is a part) is a member of the SI.com family of sites, so your work will be featured on one of the most visited and most respected top sports sites in the world.

Here’s what we’re looking for right away:
Writer (two): Your main job will be scouring the web for the latest Gamecocks news, primarily surrounding the football team and it’s recruiting, but also both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as baseball. The thirst for recruiting news is insatiable, and we want to provide a one-stop shop for the latest news and notes on potential future Gamecocks, but also insight into everything else going on in the sports world at South Carolina.

Interested? Head over and fill out our online application. You’ll be asked to provide links to writing samples (or to write a sample article) as well as share why you’d think you’d be a good fit. We’ll be in touch along the way to answer any questions you might have, as well as update you on various expectations we have of you as a writer.  You can also email us at Garnet.cocky@gmail.com if you have questions.

We hope to have you on the team soon!
