Lady Gamecocks Huge Monday Night Game

Two weeks after South Carolina took on now #1 Connecticut and lost, #6 Tennessee comes to Columbia for Lady Gamecocks huge Monday night game.  With only three games left in the regular season and the Gamecocks currently ranked #2 in the nation, this game is definitely one of the biggest of the season.  Tennessee comes in 23-3 on the season and undefeated in the SEC while Carolina is 25-1 and also undefeated in the SEC for the season.

South Carolina has ripped through all three opponents, all SEC teams, since losing to Connecticut two weeks ago.  I wrote an article shortly after that last game that losing that one might’ve been the best thing that happened to these women. Probably nothing could have prepared them more for tonight’s game then losing to what is the now number one team in the nation.

More from South Carolina Basketball

Tennessee always has a very good women’s basketball team and this year is no exception. Their statistics are very similar to South Carolina almost across the board and because both teams are in the SEC, they play very similar schedules for the season which all makes this  a very interesting matchup.  The Gamecocks have been very strong inside most of the season but lately have been really hot from the three point range shooting almost 45% in the last six games.

One of the keys to the season has definitely been the home-court advantage and the Gamecocks are looking to add to that tonight hoping for a sellout. The team is been averaging probably 12 to 14,000 fans a game recently, but with this so much on the line they’re really hoping the fans can turn out on a Monday night to support them.  Tonight’s game is a pink out to support Play 4 Kay and the team will wear pink and the first thousand fans will receive pink rally towels as well.

Tonight’s game is at 9 PM and can also be seen on ESPN2.
